Throughout the weekend, I have been researching all things NYFW to see everything that went on. I came across this article which discussed five different trends that we can look for this upcoming fall and winter. Designers are focusing on colorful looks which are soft yet hard and we can expect to see trends from the shows popping up as soon as possible.
The first trend is 90s minimalist. This trend is a softer and more relaxed version than the in your face Y2K trend that we have seen in previous years. We can expect to see minimalist ideas to come to life which include maxi looks, denim, tights, and muted tones. I predict that this 90s minimalist trend will be very popular between all age groups and I can already see this trend coming through into the Spring season.
Another trend that will be growing is leather. In the past year, brands have been coming up with leather products that are starting to become very popular. Whether it's a bag, jacket, skirt, or shirt, leather will be in everyone's closet this year. I think the idea of bringing leather back is great because its a really timeless material. I think that it also ties in with the 90s minimalist trend and that they compliment each other really well.
Crochet pieces will also be trending this season. Crochet makes things fun and brings texture and dimension to every outfit. I think that bringing crochet back just in time for Spring and Summer is perfect timing and that we can expect to see this look on a lot of people soon.
We saw lace on a lot of people at NYFW and it is reimagined how we know it. Instead of associating lace with a grandma esque look, we now see it with cut-outs, draping, and edgy trims. This rebranding of lace is going to be a big hit and we can already see it within a lot of already popular products. For example, the Urban Outfitters corset top. This top is wildly popular with people in their teens and 20s, and if you don't have something like it, you probably have something similar. I believe that there will be something lace almost as popular as the corset coming within this season.
The last trend we can expect to see is animal print. Although I personally believe this trend has died and is very 2010, some designers at the show think otherwise. This trend is really buildable and has a lot of opportunity for contrast, so I'm hoping to see some looks that I like this season.
I also enjoy looking at all of the trends that are shown in NYFW. I am personally a fan of the leather and crochet trends which I have definitely seen all over social media and even on campus at UT. I agree that while I do not love animal print, I think it is starting to come back. Thanks for sharing! - Sammi Gilfand
